Murphy and the “boob tube”

Last night, after I finished the blog, I kicked back with a documentary that featured David Attenborough and a variety of colorful birds of paradise.  About 20 minutes into the film, Murphy took interest in what was going on on the tv screen and decided to do a more thorough investigation of the bird noises coming from the tv.

Murphy watching tv up close and very personal

For me, the view was much more like this, from the couch.

my view from the couch :S lol

She was quite enthralled with what was going on in the program.

murphy watching tv...still

As a matter of fact, it didnt’ matter from what angle, where I moved or whether or not I was taking a picture, she was very preoccupied.

oh yeah...still watching

Yeah I”m thinking there could have been a fire, and it still would have taken her a minute or so to notice what was going on around her.

it was almost kinda like a guy watching football, and the naked gf that tries to walk by to get his attention; ain't nothin' doin!

For about the last twenty minutes of the show, she did move over to the couch into my lap for watching the rest of it.  At least I got to see the last 20 minutes without a black kitty in the way.  lol  :S

Oh and yes I know my desk is a mess, no need to tell me of that, not the mention the boxes of stuff in the other shot.  It’s a work in progress, what’s goin on here.  If I told ya, I’d have to kill ya! LOL

Murphy. AKA Lady Marie

Murphy, aka Lady Marie, aka Murphyboo

This post is wayyy overdue.   I have been slow in introducing you to my kitty Murphy and I have no excuse other than sheer neglect!  Yes I know….SHAME ON ME!!!  How could I have denied PK fans the pleasure of Murphy??

She is as sweet and dear as she looks.  She moved in with me fall of last year after spending the beginning of her life first at a rescue shelter and then as a therapy kitty at my place of work.  However, from the beginning, even while in her position as therapy kitty, I always knew that Murphy was mine and that if the day ever came where she would be retired, I would be taking her home.

stunning girl

And so in the fall of 09, the board of directors where I worked, decided that the organization should go back to one therapy cat rather than 3 because the 2 newest, younger ones, Spike and Murphy did their job too well, yeah I know, and were too much for the audience we served, so they were “retired” and home came Miss Murphy with me.

Once she came home, I tried changing her name, not being a big fan of the tag Murphy, (the name is work related to some dude in the psychology field), and tried several different names I felt were more eligant and suitable, but nothing stuck.  The closest I have come is Lady Marie which is used at times, but when I call her to come, it’s Murphy and that’s the name she knows best.

For a wee kitten who started out in a rescue very ill, she’s an amazingly sweet and affectionate kitty.  She gave all who came thru our doors at work attention and affection and there’s still nothing she likes better than a belly rub!!  lol

Everyday at work, Murphy was my right hand gal at my desk “helping” all she could with my busy day, even if one of my dogs like to throw her a bit of a “challenge” at getting to my desk-mainly wanting to play with her which she was not at all interested in.  She always arrived for her daily backscratch and to “share” my midmorning snack of yogurt as well.  Her job, as far she was concerned, was cleaning out the yogurt container once I was through with it!  She has continued and expanded this tradition since coming to live with me as well!  (cereal bowls, leftover scraps on selected dinner plates, etc).  Yes I know it’s probably not the best habit to have let her form, but could you look into those big beautiful golden eyes of hers and say no??

The "Lady Marie" in Murphy and my favorite pic of her!

HA!  I seriously doubt so!

Of all my kitties, Murphy is probably the most affectionate…or I should say the most tolerant of affection that she would rather not receive, such as hugs and kisses! lol  The most you’ll get out of her is a “look”, but nothing else.  24/7/365 she is a lady first and formost, and nothing, literally nothing, ruffles this girl’s feathers.  She takes the most disrespectable antics of the dogs and other kitty residents here at the PK with a grain a salt.  Never will you see her loose her cool.  Even while giving herself a bath she retains her dignity and refinement!

refinement while bathing

(Altho I must say she probably wouldn’t appreciate me using this picture!)lol

The lady is also quite a contortion artist while sleeping I must say!  It never fails tho, whenever I go to take a pic of her when she’s in one of her amazing positions, she manages to wake up and move before I’m able to click the camera…darnit!  One of these days!!  And it is also well known amongst those of us at PK, just how much the “Lady” likes her catnip as well, but shhhhh!! Don’t tell anyone! lol

catnip attack!!

And so finally, the “Lady Marie” is finally given her due and a post on the Planet Kitty blog.  Mon dieu!!  “Lady Marie”, we love u!  😀

Always a lady

Hold Still Kittens! lol

With the limited ability of my tiny little camera, and the energy of the kittens, expecting them to hold perfectly still for an excellent shot is about as impossible as flying to the moon! lol  So I make the best of it with what I CAN get until my fabulous new camera gets here!!!  (OH I am soooo counting the days peeps!)

The kittens have put on quite a bit of weight, but Mena is still behind her brother and sister in this category.  I don’t see her eating as much of the kitten chow as I’d like to and she’s not nearly as “round” as her 2 siblings, but she seems to be holding her own.  She was the hardest to get to warm up to me, but now is just a doll!

little Mena

As you can see from the kibble they’ve spilt ALL OVER the floor, they are having alot of fun getting into mischief!!  They managed to find the bag of food and knock it down and spread it everywhere!!  I still am concerned about little Mena tho, and will put in a call to the vet beginning of next weekend if her apetite doesn’t improve.  Her energy has gotten better and she does seem to be eating better, just not the level of where I would like to see it.

Little Milo on the other hand, is more than a handful at this point!!  It amazes me that in the shots I took today, I actually got a pretty good one of him sitting absolutely still for 2.5 seconds!

bathtime for Milo

Ok well maybe not completely still, but as close as I could get for Milo who is in constant motion!!  He is doing very well and is growing like a weed!

Little Millie is your typical quiet middle child.  She doesn’t like to cause any problems and just goes along with whatever is occurring.  Sort of the follow the leader kinda gal, up to a point that is, while the other 2 were taking baths, Millie grabbed the leftover wet food for herself!

Meanwhile Mena also decided it was bathtime while Milo finished up and then playtime ensued for all!!

AHhh such is the life of a kitten!   Hold still?  We don’t have time for holding still!!

scratch? i think so.....

I so can’t wait to get that new camera!!!  Patience patience patience………!!!

Ok I don’t know what’s wrong with WordPress and why it’s being so difficult in publishing my stupid blog on the new kits but it is really irritating the livin’ daylights out of me and tempting me to show my claws!! GRRRR!!!!

Well anyways, here are the little mackerel family that I rescued from my backyard.  I”m so frustrated that I can’t put up my original post I’m just gonna post their pics and then will write again more about them another time when I  have calmed down lol.  So here they are!

Milo, Mena and Millie!!

As you can see they all have their own little individual markings.  Unfortunately my main camera broke and so now I’ve only got a mediocre one to take pics.  I hope to replace my old one but have to wait until I can do some saving.

So here they are!! Milo, Mena and Millie, the Mackerels!!  Sooo cute!

Movin’ On =)

And so the story goes. Star and Glory my little fosters went off to their new permanent home today. I am sooooo thrilled for them! Their new owner already has one kitty of 20 years, and is a religiously dedicated cat lover who runs a petsitting business. I am soo glad for them to have such an awesome home! Especially with where I found them; dumped in a Wal-mart parking lot!!
I guess this home was meant to be. The first party interested in the girls never followed through, so I’m very glad for them to have gotten the home they now reside in. They will never have to worry about food, or anything ever again! Such a comfort to me and such a relief!
Over the past couple of weeks, little Glory was definitely not her normal self and even gave me a bit of a scare with loosing weight and being extremely lethargic. After a visit to the vet again last friday, it was determined that not only did she have a really high fever, but that it quite possibly could be a URI going on. The vets gave her sub-q fluids and then put her on clavamox and by this sunday she was back to her old self again. yeah!
I will miss their sweet little faces and antics, but am even moreso that they have found such a wonderful permanent home. All the best little girls!!  You will always remain in a corner of my heart!

Planet Kitty Going Mobile??

It’s highly possible!

It’s a cold cruel world out there with a terrible economy at the moment, and the town I’m located in, altho not feeling it as severely as so many other communities are, it’s still here, and it came knocking on the door of Planet Kitty in January 2010 when the non-profit I worked for closed it’s doors.

Somehow, we managed to make it through summer without becoming homeless.  Things looked up in June when I started a new job but that job came to a hault when the state and county, due to politics, closed our doors after being open only one day.  This caused the company to loose a contract and altho the place has reopend, no new contracts have come to replace the loss of that one, so I haven’t been able to go back to work.  Several yardsales and hauling stuff that I really don’t need to auction helped somewhat to sustain the cash flow, but we are coming into the coldest months of the year yet, and winter is NOT a pleasant time to become homeless with no plans in place for future shelter.

With unemployment, financial aid for school,  and assistance from other places, Planet Kitty has been able to maintain it’s axis but with no work for me the queen B, our homestead is currently in the throws of forclosure-with a slight possibility of HUD pulling something out of it’s sleeve-but instead of hoping for the best, I am a woman of action and have been getting gradually prepared for worst.

But is it really the worst?  When life throws me a curve, I can’t help but look at it outside of the boxes rather than contained within those walls.  Never one to follow the rules and/or color within the lines, I have learned over the years that loss can actually bring opportunity as well, it’s just being able to make the most of the situation, if you so choose.

While loosing my castle of the last almost 12 years can be heartbreaking, it can be rather freeing as well.  Just think of it:  no yard to upkeep; the constant work and upkeep of a house gone; more free time to do other things; travel!-WITH my beloved pets no less; the ability to take my home with me on a moment’s notice:  various previous commitments no longer tying me down;  say good bye to uptight, nosy neighbors!! ; FREEDOM of a completely different kind if me and my furry crew move from a house into a  motorhome!

Now granted, the RV would have to be a fairly large sized one and it also would have to be fairly cheap.   I would also have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me, but if I were to do this, and found something that suits my needs as soon as possible, I could park the RV in the driveway and do the work on it to get it completely “road ready”. As the house won’t forclose for a few months yet.  I also would have the advantage of a friend’s assistance who is fairly knowledgeable when it comes to motorhomes (they’ll also go with me to check out any RVs I find that I’m interested in).

So is it really all that bad?  I dunno.  Parts of me, major parts, really like this idea.  Especially the idea of going somewhere WARMER!!! lol  Another part of me, though, is afraid of the change.  Shouldn’t I still be fighting to try and keep this house?  I mean, I’ve spent going on 12 years of my life here; more than a decade of changes in life have taken place right here under this very roof!!

What about the loss of equity in the place tho??  Just as little as 2 years ago if I had sold I could have doubled my money.  Now, I’d be lucky to break even right at this moment were I to try and sell;  I would have to hang on a few years to try and recoup my investment.  Is it really worth it?

My reponse to these questions is that “life is to short” for me to sit around and wait; “it doesn’t mean there won’t be other houses”; and “change is good”.

I hate to say it but I think the reason I’m having a harder time with change this time, is because I’m older.  For the mostpart, I’ve always done well with it the past.  This time I’m finding it a little harder: a little scarier.  It could be age, or it could just be the present state of our world.  Nothing is for certain, and altho it never was in the past, with these tuff times, it seems even moreso which is scarry.  For some, quite scarry.   For me, I think it’s the combination of both.

Well…I am going to check out my first RV tomorrow night.  We’ll see what happens.  Who knows?  Me and the Furry Bunch could be vrrroom vvrrroomin’ it in our own special little RV in a few months.  I’ll keep you posted.  Promise!! 😉
